Make Google Chrome your default browser in Vista

If you (like me) have tried clicking ‘Make Google Chrome my default browser’ in options > basic with no result, you’re probably as frustrated as I was.

If you’re running Vista, it’s simply a privileges issue, you need to -

  • Close Chrome
  • Right click the Chrome shortcut and select ‘Run as Administrator’
  • Accept the warning about running as administrator
  • Go to options > basic (as before)
  • Press the ‘Make Google Chrome my default browser’ button

This time it should work :)

You can now close the browser as administrator and launch it again with your normal user credentials.

On a side note, if you are having trouble making Skype aware of Opera as your default browser, this may help.

Well, they’ve not announced it officially, but it appears it’s here.

Google launches new web browser

Well, unless I’ve lost all track of my calendar and tomorrow is actually Aprils Fools Day then it would appear that Google is launching it’s new web browser, Google Chrome tomorrow.

I wait in anticipation, let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Goodbye my friend

Anyone who reads this blog, has simply dropped by at some time or knows me on other sites, may have noticed Dennis.  Dennis is the cat used in my avatar and also in the main image used at the top of this blog.

Unfortunately, this morning we buryed Dennis.  He was my pet and a great friend and I’ll miss him dearly.

RIP buster, we will all miss you :(

AVG update set to fix things?

I’ve not had this confirmed from any of my contacts at AVG via the Google Group I belong to, but this post on the Australian Whirlpool Broadband Forums, suggests 9th July might bring the release we’ve been waiting for.

I’ve also found Lloyd Borrett posting the same info here.

If I hear any further confirmation from AVG, I’ll let you know, until then we’ll see what happens on the 9th.  Interestingly Lloyd doesn’t see to know what day it is, either that or my calendar is wrong -

In working with the web master community, AVG has responded immediately and on Tuesday, July 9th, AVG will issue a product modification to address the spikes that a few individuals have seen with their web traffic.

Tuesday? I make it Wednesday, ah well, we might see something Tuesday or Wednesday then :P

Nice use of “a few individuals” there Lloyd, I wouldn’t class it as a few myself.

Now confirmed by Pat Bitton at AVG, see comment below.
